Custom-Made Full-sized Helmets

This is my (growing) collection of custom, full-sized helmets. I love having helmets that you can not buy anywhere, and I have personally customized each one in my collection. Please check them out. I have a short description of each helmet and what all I did to bring the helmet to life. These take a lot of work to complete, but the reward of having a one-of-a-kind helmet is worth it.

Alabama Crimson Tide Concept

My first custom job. This was an old, scratched, silver high school helmet that I sanded, painted in Alabama crimson and clear coated. I used my vinyl cutter to create the "A" decals. I then added the 3D "BAMA" nose bumpers for an extra level of customization.
Batman

I've always been a big Batman fan, and now my young son loves him too. This was an old, scratched, silver high school helmet that I sanded, painted gloss black and clear coated. I dyed all the padding black and used my vinyl cutter to create the bat decals.
Pelham Panthers class of 1990

I graduated from Pelham High School in Pelham, AL in 1990. This was the helmet we wore then. I took a used, scratched navy blue high school helmet, sanded, painted forest green and clear coated. After a lot of research and work to create the logo artwork, I had the decals printed.
Birmingham Americans - WFL (1974)

The first of Birmingham, Alabama's minor league football teams. I took a used, scratched, green helmet, sanded, painted white, and clear coated. After creating the artwork, I then got the decals printed and added a vintage facemask.
Birmingham Vulcans - WFL (1975)

The second of Birmingham, Alabama's minor league football teams. I took a used, scratched, maroon helmet, sanded, painted white, and clear coated. After creating the artwork, I then got the decals printed and added a vintage facemask.
Alabama Vulcans - AFA (1979)
The third of Birmingham, Alabama's minor league football teams. I took a used, scratched, maroon helmet, sanded, painted black, and clear coated. After creating the artwork, I then got the decals printed and added a vintage facemask.
Alabama Magic - AFA (1982)
The fourth of Birmingham, Alabama's minor league football teams. I took a used, scratched, red helmet, sanded, painted royal blue, and clear coated. After creating the artwork, I then got the decals printed and added a vintage facemask.
Birmingham Stallions - USFL (1983-1985)
This is my favorite defunct team and my favorite all-time helmet. I used a new gold helmet with a vintage USFL style mask. After a lot of research to get the artwork correct, I had the decals printed.
Birmingham Fire - WLAF (1991-1992)
The WLAF had some awful helmets, but this was the best and a helmet that was ahead of it's time. This was just a stripped Proline Chicago Bears helmet. The decals were the most work on this. Getting the size right and applying them was a big challenge.
Birmingham Barracudas - CFL USA (1995)
The CFL's attempt at having an American presence didn't last long, but gave us this beauty. I took and old, scratched navy blue helmet, sanded, painted gloss black and clear coated. After a LOT of work to create the artwork, I got the decal printed.
Birmingham Bolts - XFL (2001)
Who could forget the disaster that was the XFL? But it did have some cool helmets. The shell is actually metal-flake white. It's a replica Miami Hurricanes helmet with used padding installed for realism. The artwork was difficult to recreate and the one-piece decal was an even bigger challenge to apply.
Birmingham Steeldogs - Arena 2 (2000-2005)
The Steeldogs was one of the first and one of the longest running franchises of the AF2. This was their first design. I took a used, scratched navy blue helmet, sanded, painted a metal-flake black, clear coated, and dyed the padding black. After recreating the artwork, I got the decals printed.
Birmingham Steeldogs - Arena 2 (2006)
This was the Steeldogs's second design. I took another used, scratched navy blue helmet, sanded, painted a metal-flake black, clear coated, and dyed the padding black. After recreating the artwork, I got the decals printed.
